It's been a while guys! How are you? I hope y'all doing well. Me, I've been so busy with work and life, that's why I haven't had the time to blog until now. Also, I'm so ecstatic to know that loads of you take your precious time to read my blog, especially My K-drama recommendations post. So I figured, why not blog yet another movie/drama recommendation, only this time, it's about Japanese movies. Korean and Japanese movies/dramas are completely different from each other, in terms of storyline, acting, and just the tone in general. But nonetheless, they're both great to watch and will definitely make you feel something that you don't on usual days. So, shall we start? Animations:
1. Anohana Friends grow apart after a tragic accident claims one of their number. Years later, the dead girl appears to them to ask for their help in crossing over to the afterlife. 2. Orange In Matsumoto, Naho Takamiya, a second year high school student, receives letters sent from herself 10 years into the future. Her future self asks her to prevent her "biggest regrets", which has something to do with the new transfer student from Tokyo, a boy named Kakeru Naruse. 3. Hotarubi no Mori e Tells the story of a young girl named Hotaru and her friendship with Gin, a strange young man wearing a mask, who she meets at the age of six in a mountain forest near her grandfather's country home. 4. When Marnie Was There A young girl is sent to the country for health reasons, where she meets an unlikely friend in the form of Marnie, a young girl with flowing blonde hair. As the friendship unravels Marnie has closer ties to the protagonist than we might expect. 5. Grave of the Fireflies A devastating meditation on the human cost of war, this animated tale follows Seita, a teenager charged with the care of his younger sister, Setsuko, after an American firebombing during World War II separates the two children from their parents. Their tale of survival is as heartbreaking as it is true to life. The siblings rely completely on each other and struggle against all odds to stay together and stay alive. 6. A Silent Voice When a grade school student with impaired hearing is bullied mercilessly, she transfers to another school. Years later, one of her former tormentors sets out to make amends. 7. Your Name A teenage boy and girl embark on a quest to meet each other for the first time after they magically swap bodies. 8. The Garden of Words When a lonely teenager skips his morning lessons to sit in a lovely garden, he meets a mysterious older woman who shares his feelings of alienation. 9. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time A teenage girl tries to use her newfound ability to travel through time to her advantage. 10. Children Who Chase Lost Voices When she hears a strange song from a crystal radio, a yong girl named Asuna is transported to a world of mythical beasts and brave warriors. 11. 5 Centimeters per Second old in three interconnected segments, we follow a young man named Takaki through his life as cruel winters, cold technology, and finally, adult obligations and responsibility converge to test the delicate petals of love. 12. The Secret World of Arriety Arrietty, a tiny teenager, lives with her parents in the recesses of a suburban home, unbeknown to the homeowner and housekeeper. Like others of her kind, Arrietty remains hidden from her human hosts, but occasionally ventures forth from beneath the floorboards to borrow sugar cubes and other supplies. A secret friendship forms when 12-year-old Shawn meets Arrietty, but their relationship could spell danger for Arrietty's family. 13. Kiki's Delivery Service In this anime feature, 13-year-old Kiki moves to a seaside town with her talking cat, Jiji, to spend a year alone, in accordance with her village's tradition for witches in training. After learning to control her broomstick, Kiki sets up a flying courier service and soon becomes a fixture in the community. But when the insecure young witch begins questioning herself and loses her magic abilities, she must overcome her self-doubt to get her powers back. 14. Wolf Children Hana marries a wolf man and raises their two children alone after he dies. They move to the countryside and the children have adventures in the woods and at school. 15. A Letter to Momo Momo is recovering from her father's death and her mother's decision to move their family from Tokyo to a remote island, when she discovers a message from her father that causes strange events to occur. Live-actions: 1. My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday Takatoshi Minamiyama majors in art at an university in Kyoto. On the train to the school, he sees Emi Fukuju and falls in love with her at first sight. Gathering up all his courage, he speaks to her. They begin to date and enjoy happy days together, but Emi reveals her secret to him. 2. Love Letter Despite the years that have passed, Hiroko Watanabe is still grieving the death of her fiancé, who died unexpectedly while climbing a mountain. When Hiroko discovers her deceased lover's childhood address, she impulsively writes to him, and is shocked to receive a letter in reply. However, the note's author is Itsuki Fujii, a young woman who shares the same name as Hiroko's late boyfriend. As the two women exchange letters, they begin an unusual relationship. 3. Koizora Mika is a fresh high school student who starts texting a mysterious boy. She is shocked when he reveals who he is - Hiro, a delinquent attending her school. What she doesn't know is that Hiro isn't as bad as he seems. 4. Hanamizuki A young girl tries to maintain a long-distance relationship with an aspiring fisherman. 5. Kimi ni Todoke A schoolgirl is feared by her classmates because she looks like a character from a horror movie. 6. My Teacher Kosaku Ito teaches world history at a high school. He looks inflexible, but, in fact, he has a warm heart. Hibiki Shimada is a student and she has a crush on Kosaku. She has never had a boyfriend before. Due to being young and naive, she is honest to Kosaku about her feelings. Kosaku though is unable to express his feelings freely due to his position as a teacher. 7. Sukina Hito ga Iru Koto (10 Episodes) Misaki Sakurai has not dated in a long time. She has focused on her work as a pâtissier to eventually run her own business. One day, she gets fired from work. She then meets her first love from high school Chiaki Shibasaki. Misaki Sakurai works part-time at Chiaki’s restaurant and also stays there. While she lives with Chiaki at his restaurant, she realizes that Chiaki's two younger brothers Toma and Kanata also live there. 8. I Give My First Love to You As a child Takuma is diagnosed with a heart condition that requires care from a cardiologist. He soon becomes friends with his doctors young daughter Mayu while being treated at the hospital. One day Mayu overhears her father saying that Takumas condition is serious enough that he most likely wont live beyond the age of 20. Takuma isn't aware of this himself, however, so at 8-years-old he makes a promise to marry Mayu when they turn 20. Later in life, Takuma becomes aware that he wont be able to keep this promise and he begins distancing himself from Mayu in hopes of protecting her. 9. Blue Spring Ride When she was in middle school, Yoshioka Futaba met Tanaka Kou whom she had mutual love. After Kou moved to Nagaski with his late mother, Futaba lost contact with him. In her first-year of high school, she met Kou who's now carrying the name "Mabuchi", who is now stoic, cold, and totally different from the gentle Kou he met in middle-school. 10. Daytime Shooting Star Suzume Yosano's parents have decided to move to Bangladesh when her father's job gets transferred there. However, they're not taking her with them. So, Suzume moves to Tokyo to live with her uncle, Yukichi. On her way to moving into her uncle's house, she runs into a strange man who helps her since she is initially lost. When she starts school, it turns out that he is none other than her homeroom teacher, Satsuki Shishio. Between him and making new friends, Suzume's first year of high school in Tokyo will be full of fun and adventure. 11. My Teacher, My Love Ayuha Samaru is a high school student. She is honest and works hard at everything, no matter what. One day, she has trouble at a gyudon restaurant due to money. A man at the restaurant, Yoshitaka Hiromitsu, helps her out. The next day, she finds that Yoshitaka has come to her school as a substitute teacher for her ill homeroom teacher. Ayuha now believes that Yoshitaka is her fate in love. She keeps expressing her feelings to him. 12. Let Me Eat Your Pancreas A high school girl with a terminal illness opts to make the most of her few remaining months, be cheerful and experience as much as possible before it is all too late. She has a crush on a class-mate and acts on her impulse. She loves her best friend and receives loyalty in return. She brings wonder to those around her. Part of her disposition is owing to her superstitious beliefs and the diary she is leaving behind, which acts as a letter to her sullen school crush. 13.
